Mucha gente cree (algunas veces con sus razones y otras veces por desconocimiento) que alrededor del mundo de los eSports<\/strong> hay algo de exageraci\u00f3n, de exceso de optimismo acerca de su evoluci\u00f3n, de moda, de \u00abhype\u00bb, \u00bfpero es realmente as\u00ed?<\/p>\n

Hace unas semanas tuve la posibilidad de ir a la presentaci\u00f3n de una encuesta realizada por PwC acerca de los eSports a 757 personas.<\/p>\n

Sus preguntas son muy variadas, pero tienen la finalidad de definir si realmente hay futuro y, sobre todo, oportunidad de negocio en los eSports.<\/p>\n

Dejo el enlace a la encuesta<\/a> entera por si alguien tiene inter\u00e9s en verla en detalle, pero a continuaci\u00f3n resumo los puntos que considero m\u00e1s relevantes.<\/p>\n

Situaci\u00f3n actual de los eSports<\/h2>\n

A\u00fan no son tan conocidos<\/h3>\n

S\u00f3lo el 15% de los encuestados sab\u00eda lo que eran o hab\u00eda escuchado hablar de los eSports, n\u00famero que ascend\u00eda al 30% cuando se les explicaba la definici\u00f3n.<\/p>\n

Tampoco los practica o los ve mucha gente<\/h3>\n

El 80% no estaba involucrado de ninguna manera con los eSports.<\/p>\n

Es un sector de hombres y mujeres<\/h3>\n

El 22% de las mujeres encuestadas declararon estar relacionadas de alguna manera con los eSports, versus el 18% de los hombres.<\/p>\n

Se juega m\u00e1s en desktop que en consola<\/h3>\n

El 57% de los jugadores prefieren un ordenador para jugar, en comparaci\u00f3n con el 46% que elige la consola.<\/p>\n

Los juegos que m\u00e1s audiencia tienen est\u00e1n relacionados con la batalla y la violencia<\/h3>\n

El 63% prefiere juegos del estilo \u00abfirst person shooter\u00bb como el Counter Strike, por poner un ejemplo, mientras que el 36% prefiere juegos de lucha.<\/p>\n

El deporte es una cuenta pendiente, por el momento<\/h3>\n

Los juegos relacionados con el deporte no alcanzan ni el 5% del inter\u00e9s de los seguidores de los eSports.<\/p>\n

Como en casa, en ning\u00fan sitio<\/h3>\n

El 70% de los jugadores juega s\u00f3lo desde casa.<\/p>\n

Hay mercado<\/h3>\n

El gasto anual promedio de todos los encuestados vinculado a los juegos electr\u00f3nicos es de 245 USD.<\/p>\n

Conclusiones de la encuesta sobre eSports<\/h2>\n

M\u00e1s all\u00e1 de los n\u00fameros, la encuesta tambi\u00e9n concluye que:<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. A\u00fan no es \u2018mainstream\u2019 pero representa un nicho de mercado<\/strong> en el que sus fans son leales y apasionados.<\/li>\n
  2. Es un sector en crecimiento<\/strong>, pero su repercusi\u00f3n a\u00fan es baja en t\u00e9rminos generales.<\/li>\n
  3. M\u00e1s all\u00e1 de los eventos multitudinarios que ya existen, las principales oportunidades de negocio principales se encuentran en el mundo digital<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
  4. El fanatismo<\/strong> est\u00e1 m\u00e1s relacionado con el juego en s\u00ed, que con los equipos o jugadores que lo practican.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Es dif\u00edcil asegurar en qu\u00e9 fase de la Curva de Gartner<\/a> est\u00e1 el sector de los eSports, y aqu\u00ed hay opiniones de todos los colores.<\/p>\n

    Pero a la luz de los resultados de la encuesta en mi opini\u00f3n no hay \u00abhype\u00bb, teniendo en cuenta que hay mucha gente que los practica y sigue y, por ende, hay una gran oportunidad de negocio. Otra cosa es que sea \u00abmainstream\u00bb, que no lo es.<\/p>\n

    Los eSports que m\u00e1s triunfan a\u00fan son juegos de nicho como el Counter Strike, el League of Legends o el DOTA 2, s\u00f3lo por poner algunos ejemplos.<\/p>\n

    La pregunta que me surge entonces es:<\/p>\n

    \u00bfQu\u00e9 pasar\u00e1 cuando se pueda ganar mucho dinero jugando a juegos m\u00e1s aceptados o entendidos por el com\u00fan de la sociedad, como el FIFA?<\/p>\n
